Join fellow PCMSC members for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding throughout the summer. We typically paddle once a week from mid-June through mid-September, with most outings taking place at Jordanelle Reservoir and occasional trips to other nearby reservoirs.
Whether you're an experienced paddler or trying the sport for the first time, our outings are a great way to enjoy Utah's beautiful lakes while meeting other club members.
Getting Started
Most outings are beginner-friendly, and experienced members are happy to help newcomers get started. Before attending your first event:
• Register through the Club Calendar.
• Review and accept the PCMSC waiver form listed in the event details.
• Reserve rental equipment in advance if needed.
• Check the event listing for the meeting location, start time and other key details.
Equipment
You are welcome to bring your own kayak or stand-up paddleboard or rent equipment when available. At Jordanelle Reservoir, single kayaks, tandem kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards are typically available through Jordanelle Rentals. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during busy summer weekends. If you are renting equipment, you must fill out the Jordanelle Rentals’ online waiver form.
Some reservoirs do not offer equipment rentals, so participants will need to provide their own equipment. If you bring your own equipment, Utah may require completion of the Mussel-Aware Boater Program before launching at certain state reservoirs.
What to Bring
• Coast Guard-approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) (included with rentals)
• Water and snacks
• Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
• Water shoes or sandals
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• Towel and a change of clothes
• Cell phone in a waterproof case (recommended)
State Park Fees
Most paddling events take place in Utah State Parks. Participants are responsible for any applicable park entrance fees or annual passes. Carpooling is encouraged whenever possible. Note, the Jordanelle Reservoir day pass is $20 per vehicle.
Weather & Safety
Meeting times and launch locations vary by event, so please review the event details before attending. Weather cancellations or schedule changes will be communicated through the event listing or by the activity leader. Note, early in the season the water can be very cold, 60 degrees or less. Therefore, you should be comfortable being able to get back onto your stand-up paddleboard or kayak if you fall into water at these temperatures. We will have a sign in and sign out sheet at the start location so that we ensure everyone makes it back. Please make sure to sign out when you return, so we don’t leave anyone stranded on the reservoir.
